My family recently moved to a new house just outside the town. We thought that the new place and its quiet neighborhood will be a perfect place to raise our kids. Recently when I installed Magpie RSS on PHP 5.1 it keep showing Error warning: Warning: gmmktime() expects parameter 3 to be long. When I tried finding the answer from Google, it seems many sites suffering this same kind of error. The error looks only occur on sites running on PHP 5.

To fix this ” gmmktime() expects parameter 3 to be long ” error you only need to slightly modify the magpie RSS code.

Edit the rss_utils.inc in MagpieRSS and find out the line 35

$epoch = gmmktime( $hours, $minutes, $seconds, $month, $day, $year);

to the following line by adding +0 after the third variables ($seconds):

$epoch = gmmktime( $hours, $minutes, $seconds+0, $month, $day, $year);

That’s all and you won’t receive the error warning again.

Google always insisted that their Search engine algorithm has been designed to display the most relevant result of the keyword searched by the user. Therefore most webmaster believe that they must optimizing their page to include all intended keyword within the page in order to show their page on the first position of Google Search result page. In other word we must do SEO on our page.

Well today is the last day of SEOcontest2008. I’ve give everything I could to increase the rank of my page on Google SERP but my page still on the 9th position. However due to the very nature of my single page which is considered as a static page, it’s on-page optimization has reached maximum in my opinion.

My page which consist only a single page hold the highest position among it’s kind. The second position of seocontest participant using only a single page belongs to www.jehzlau-concepts.com/2008/02/seocontest2008.html. It’s not too bad.

Currently the top 5 position belongs to seocontest participant whose employed a full Blog system. If you look at their sites, all contestant using WordPress as their Blog engine. This is another proof about the power of SEO features on WordPress.

So, I couldn’t reach my target to become the winner on this seocontest, nevertheless I learn a lot of thing about SEO and I think I could reach a better position of the next contest.
